Weekly Review - 2020-06-28

Here are some of the things from the past week that I’ve come across and felt were worth sharing. As always, feel free to leave a comment on the blog or on social media if you’d like to add to the discussion. And if you like what’s in here, please use one or more of those buttons at the bottom of the post to share with friends.

What I’ve learned:
  • I’m nearly done reading Cash Copy By Jeffrey LantWeekly Review - 2020-06-28 and continuing to learn a lot (I read 70-100 pages per week). This is an older book – written in 1999 – but most of the material is still relevant today. One tip that resonated with me this week was related to classified ads. You have such limited space that you need to make every word count. He walks you through the process of getting your message down to ten words. Most of us don’t use classified ads these days, but many of us use Twitter.
  • I found a great article titled “6 Habits of Insanely Productive People.” I normally don’t like these types of articles but this one actually has solid advice. One tip that stands out is the not-to-do list – a list of things to avoid that take your focus away from important things. This is something I’ve been practicing, but it’s harder than it sounds.

What I’ve written:

Cool / Interesting / Retro Stuff:
    • Last week, I shared the intro from “The Fall Guy” which was one of my favorite TV shows as a kid. This week, I’d like to share a few more shows that I enjoyed. Here are some that may bring back memories:
      • Chips was about two police officers from the California Highway Patrol starring Erik Estrada & Larry Wilcox. There was a film remake in 2017. I recently discovered that the lieutenant in the series was played by Robert Pine – Chris Pine’s father. Here’s the show intro:

      • The A-Team was another one of my favorites. It was about four soldiers from the Vietnam War that were falsely accused of a crime. They escaped from prison and are on the run. They are soldiers of fortune, so they make money as hired guns – in most cases helping others who have been wronged. The show stared Mr. T., George Peppard, Dirk Benedict and Dwight Shultz. At 45 seconds in the below video, you may notice a cylon from the original Battlestar Galactica series. Dirk Benedict played “Starbuck” on that show.

Quote(s) of the week:

“It’s not luck, it’s not magic, it’s not circumstances. It’s developing a great plan and executing on it, day in and day out until the visions in your head become your reality.”

– Andy Frisella
