I see a views things differently than you seem to see them. First, I think what gets in the way of most people not reaching their goals, be it health or diet & exercise or starting and suceeding at a business, is not just their commitment but their personal beliefs. Their beliefs about themselves and their environment as well as how they might fit into that.

As for failure — what if there were no failure and instead we chose to look at it as feedback. Think about that for a moment and how might each situation that someone would normally view as ‘failure’ now instead looks at it as just information. The event itself is neutral — it is just a result. It either worked out they way it was wanted or it did not. So what? So look at what lead up to the result created, review what it would take to more likely create the desired result and find the point at which to start over only this time making those new choices that will either lead to a desired result or at least one closer. Along the way, we are getting new useful information on how to get what we want. Isn’t that useful information?
