I’ve heard the phrase “Life is Too Short” a number of times throughout the years. Sometimes it refers to a person’s reaction to someone else’s behavior (Life is too short to hate your sister) and other times it’s just a general statement (Life is too short – there’s so much to do). The other day, I was thinking about some of these phrases I’ve heard as well some that I’ve thought to myself and thought it would be a good topic for a post. So here’s some that I’d like to share:
- Life is too short to hate your life.
- Life is too short to hold a grudge for a decade.
- Life is too short to spend your life in a cubicle hoping you’ve kissed enough butt to get a promotion.
- Life is too short to not give love a chance.
- Life to too short to pass up an opportunity of a lifetime.
- Life is too short to pass by a perfectly good sprinkler on a hot summer day and not run through it.
- Life is too short to give up.
- Life is too short to let your kids grow up while you slave away in the office.
- Life is too short to not keep in touch with old friends.
- Life is too short to not catch-up with a friend or relative that lives far away but is in town for the weekend.
- Life is too short to not take risks.
- Life is too short to sleep 10 hours per day.
- Life is too short to kill time.
- Life is too short to not live every day to its fullest.
- Life is too short to not tell someone you love them.
- Life is too short to lose sight of your dreams.
- Life is too short to not try something new.
- Life is too short to not get out there and see the world.
- Life is too short to pass up a good joke.
- Life is too short to wish you were older.
- Life is too short to not introduce yourself to someone that seems interesting.
- Life is too short to wake up unhappy every day.
- Life is too short to procrastinate.
- Life is too short to not discover natural beauty.
- Life is too short to not laugh or have fun whenever you can.
- Life is too short to miss a chance to spend time with someone you love.
- Life is too short to make mountains out of molehills.
- Life is too short to live in fear.
- Life is too short to not travel.
- Life is too short to waste time.
- Life is too short to allow fear of rejection to deter you from doing something.
- Life is too short to not have goals.
- Life is too short to let others bring you down.
- Life is too short to not be the best you can be.
- Life is too short to park yourself in front of the computer or TV all day.
- Life is too short to be serious all the time.
- Life is too short to give up a chance to hang out with friends.

[...] This morning an eight year-old girl passed away from a rare form of cancer. I learned about it through Twitter – many of my friends on Twitter were following the story of this young girl and re-tweeted the note that she had passed on. My heart goes out to her family – I can’t even begin to fathom what they are going through (and have been going through). But it’s a sobering reminder that life is a gift and can be taken away at any time. [...]

[...] Life is too short and we never know when the final chapter of our lives will come to a close. Some of us are fortunate to have some advanced warning that our days are numbered while others depart completely unexpected. If you find yourself in the first group, there is a silver lining to that cloud. There’s a song by Tim McGraw called “Live Like You Were Dying.” It’s about a guy with a friend who finds out his days are numbered and chooses to use it as an opportunity to really live. Rather than sulk and spend his remaining days depressed, the man in this song pushes life to its limit. As the chorus begins “I went sky diving. I went Rocky Mountain climbing. I spent 2.7 seconds, on a bull named Fu Man Chu.” Most of us would never consider doing such activities out of fear of getting hurt, getting permanently disabled or even dying.
