Back in January, I was rushing about town doing some errands when I came across a country music station. I had never been a fan of country music, but a song caught my ear as I was trying to find something other than news or commercials to listen to. The song was about how things may seem bad, but there’s still a lot to be grateful and thankful for. The song was “Lucky Man” by Montgomery Gentry.
When I got home, I looked up the song online and really listened to the lyrics. I was having an extremely stressful day, but the song reminded me to put things in perspective. Yes, there are days when things don’t go our way and it seems like the world is against us, but we often forget that we have a lot of things that are going well. So you got passed over for a promotion, can’t afford that BMW you’ve got your eye on or can’t take that vacation you’ve been wanting to. But there are probably people out there that love and care for you. Sometimes we over look these people: our spouse, parents, children, extended family, friends, coworkers, colleagues, etc….
When I’m having a particularly tough day, I try to tell myself that “every day above ground is a good day.” When I’m not convinced, and the day I first heard this song was one of those days, I look to music to help change my mood. And “Lucky Man” is the perfect song for that occasion. If you’ve never heard the song before, here’s a nice video that someone created of their own life and family set to the music:
It’s amazing how a simple song can change the way you think and pull you out of a rut. This song is primarily geared towards men, but women can also appreciate the message. So find music in the style that you like that helps you get through the more challenging times. Remember, every minute you’re feeling the blues robs you of 60 seconds of happiness.
